The National Meteorological Library (NML) supports Bureau programs and outputs. The NML keep Bureau staff informed by making relevant resources discoverable. It provides products and services which support access to relevant and current meteorological, oceanographic, hydrological and environmental information. The library is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

The Library team consists of 2 librarians: Systems Librarian (PO 2) and Research Librarian (PO 2).

The occupant of this position will be required to achieve the following objectives:

  • Assist the Bureau’s decision making to minimise risk by supporting the Library’s gateway to relevant information resources via the Bureau intranet; validating information delivered to Bureau staff so they can rely on quality information;
  • Contribute to Bureau innovation by ensuring accessibility to timely information via communication channels such as the Intranet and email; assisting with the delivery of Information Literacy Program activities;
  • Contribute to the Bureau’s knowledge infrastructure by having specialist knowledge of the information and publication supply chain; developing and managing the library management system; having responsibility for indexing and cataloguing of publications including grey literature in print and electronic formats; quality control of the cataloguing process;
  • Improve cost efficiency by using relevant and innovative technologies to enhance library workflows and to make information resources discoverable;
  • Contribute to productivity improvement by developing current awareness services; participating in relevant projects; and
  • Other duties as directed.
